SHiNE Clubs
Serve * Honor * Inspire * Nurture * Encourage
SHiNE Clubs are character-based clubs that give kids a sense of belonging and self-worth.
The principles taught help kids understand the value they have in their world as well as the value others have. They learn they can make a real difference in the lives of others even if they are young. Throughout the year, the kids get the opportunity to practice the SHiNE principles in both their schools - for school administration, teachers and fellow students - and in their communities. The club reinforces many of the concepts already taught in the school system, such as taking responsibility for your own actions, making good decisions, and standing up against bullying.

We started our first SHiNE Club in January 2013 at Bonne Ecole Elementary School in Slidell. We had hoped to have 40-50 kids interested and we were thrilled to have more than 80 involved by the end of that school year. The club made such a difference in the lives of the students and volunteers, that they offered the club again at the start of the 2013-2014 school year, and the club has continued to draw between 80-100 students each year. For the 2015-2016 school year, we launched a SHiNE club at Creekside Junior High in Pearl River for kids in the special needs classes. We are currently writing a more formal curriculum for the club so other elementary schools will be able to offer the club. Students in the SHiNE Club work to SHiNE in their schools and in their community. |
